Press Release, November 26, 2015
Exhibition title: 180 ° – GEORG GLATZEL
Exhibition period: December 11, 2015 – January 31, 2016
Exhibition opening: December 10, 2015, doors open at 7 p.m.
On Thursday, 10 December 2015, the temporary Pop Up Gallery Sankthorst is presenting GEORG GLATZEL’s 180° exhibition. A homage to a new beginning in life, to the two sides of any point of view and to New York City.
180° is the first solo exhibition of the artist Georg Glatzel. Born in 1961 in Hamburg, he resigned from his position as Chief Executive Officer in a listed company and left Germany to move towards New York. The consequence of dropping out of a classical career was not only a complete professional turn-around, but also the rediscovery by himself in 180°.
180° is showing the urban life of Glatzel in his adopted City of New York. The large surface double exposures play with two perspectives, arising just in the moment of the shot. In this way the artist enables us to take a look at the very exciting city, its buildings and its industry, while showing also the ‘kitsch’ and the powerful colors created by the individual of the metropolis.
Two perspectives occur in harmony at the same moment, but 180° apart from each other. Both together are revealing a third perspective, which, unifying and forward-looking, stands for the environment as well as for Georg Glatzel’s life.
Glatzel composed his works during his several hundreds of rambles.
The exhibition is open from 11 December 2015 until 31 January 2016 and takes place in Jägerstraße 55, 10117 Berlin.
The opening ceremony is assisted by DJane Sarah Farina and Catering by Mogg.
